About Borehole Mining International, Inc.
Borehole Mining International, Inc. (BHMI) is a global leader in borehole mining. The company holds world records in depth, productivity and commercialization of borehole mining. This leadership is built on their patented advanced BHM technology and is driven by relentless progress across various sciences, disciplines, and essential technology components. This is the area where BHMI has dedicated years to research, laboratory and field experimentation, and testing. Leading experts from multiple nations have contributed their knowledge and skills in materials science, rock mechanics, hydro-geology, fluid dynamics, economics, and other BHM fields.
Applying top-notch materials, computer sciences, and design innovations, BHMI constantly advances its technology, following their clients' needs and the most recent environmental requirements and restrictions. This intensive development results in pioneering in all aspects of BHM, which in turn results in ongoing patenting. Since the 1970s, dozens of patents have been granted to the company, covering BHM technology and tooling in the US, Russia, Canada, and other countries. Presently, BHMI has a patent pending for their newest invention—the E-nozzle.
Their 1st project - BHM of Uranium, located in the desert part of Kazakhstan, lasted through the 1970s and 80s. It became and remains today the most successful commercial BHM project in the world. In the early 90s, the US Bureau of Mines (Tween Cities, MN) recognized BHMI’s leadership and achievements, noticing their higher level of simplicity, standardization, cost-effectiveness and overall superior design.
In addition to uranium, the list of BHM projects includes iron, manganese, zirconium, titanium, germanium, gold, diamonds, phosphorite, silica sand, coal, and several more. The company also utilizes BHM technology for stimulation of gas, oil, and groundwater production. One of these projects—CBM stimulation in the San Juan Coal Basin (NM, USA)—became and remains the deepest ever BHM application at over 1km below the surface. The company also successfully applied its technology to the in-situ treatment of acid drainage from an abandoned and inaccessible coal mine (T&T, WV, USA). Recently, BHMI demonstrated its technology’s year-round applicability at temperatures exceeding -30°C and from abandoned and flooded mines, opening the door to the below-the-seafloor BHM and making their technology applicable anywhere in the world, literally.
For its clients, the company provides consulting that covers feasibility studies, technology development, BHM tool design, manufacturing, testing and on-site support. The major clients of BHMI are Phillips Petroleum, Devon Energy (both USA), Gold Fields (Australia), and several others. The world mining industry recognized BHMI’s leadership when, in 2024, BHMI received an invitation from the European Union “Lithium For Life” Consortium, where, among EU companies, universities, industry experts and other participants, BHMI was selected for mining of lithium. With BHMI’s technology strategically positioned at the first step in the mine-to-metal technological chain, the Consortium has won the tense competition and is currently in the advancement stage. BHMI also participates in another EU consortium organized for the development of world’s graphite resources.
Extensive research and development, numerous international articles, patents, presentations, and other publications, along with over-fifty-years of field experience and robust, cost-effective, versatile technology, position BHMI decades ahead of potential followers, establishing it as an indisputable world leader in the borehole mining industry.
